Follow the Fox to The Northridge Inn, Muskoka

By Kristina Smith

If your idea of escape involves golden sunsets, vintage charm, the gentle lapping of lake water, and an effortless plunge into deep relaxation, then prepare to be captivated. If not, well, you might just be missing out.

There’s something truly special about heading “north,” a directional pull that promises more than just a change of scenery. North of Huntsville and en route to North Bay, you’ll discover The Northridge Inn & Resort. Nestled in the rural heart of Sundridge, right at the tip of Muskoka in the Almaguin Highlands, pulling into this luxury boutique resort felt like finding a hidden gem, exactly where you need to be.

The moment you arrive, The Northridge greets you with an infectious warmth and a palpable sense of good vibes. It’s small enough to feel intimate and curated, yet expansive enough to offer every amenity you could desire.

Whether you choose a cozy suite, a private chalet, a vintage Airstream, or one of their unique glamping tents, expect an exceptional level of comfort where wood-burning fireplaces, plush duvets, and spectacular lake views are standard. With only 24 accommodations on site, intimacy, quality, and attentiveness are truly the order of the day.

The interior design at Northridge Inn is a masterclass in laid-back luxury with a playful, retro twist. The communal spaces buzz with personality, from the inviting Copper Fox retro lounge adorned with a glittering disco ball and statement chandeliers, to the gorgeous Lakeside Terrace, where your eyes will naturally drift up to a stunning overturned canoe suspended overhead.

Here, the clean spring water flows freely from the taps, and the atmosphere encourages you to slow down. Spend your mornings with a continental breakfast and your evenings watching glorious sunsets, perhaps with a glass of wine or their signature Northridge cocktail.

My chalet featured vaulted ceilings and an open-concept layout that embraced the stunning surroundings. With two bedrooms—one king, and another with a queen and a twin—plus a full bathroom, it was the perfect retreat.

The living and dining areas flowed seamlessly into a full kitchen, complete with a full-size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, and coffeemaker, making it easy to settle in. Every chalet boasts incredible views of Lake Bernard from a private patio accessed through French doors, and thoughtful touches like goose-down duvets, thermostat-controlled heating and air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, and a cozy wood-burning fireplace elevate the stay.

Beyond the aesthetics, Northridge Inn is a haven for both activity and repose. Days can be filled with tennis, beach time, or games on the sand beach. You can take to the water in paddle boats, canoes, or kayaks, or simply lounge by the in-ground pool (during July and August, “Sip & Dip” pool days are open to everyone who wants to join in).

As night falls, gather around the firepits in comfortable Muskoka chairs or retreat to your chalet’s private hot tub. The beautiful, long dock stretching out over the water is a popular spot for wedding ceremonies, offering a picturesque backdrop for saying “I do.”

While Northridge Inn is a premier Ontario wedding and event venue, it’s also an ideal escape for groups or those seeking a quiet, remote retreat from May through October. The friendly and super helpful staff—shout outs to Kate, Nancy, and the whole team who will make your stay exceptional—ensure every detail is handled with care.

It was clear to me that inclusivity is at the heart of the Northridge experience; they welcome everyone with open arms, celebrating community with sass, flavour, and a little bit of glitter, as evidenced by events like their vibrant Pride celebrations and drag brunches.

With waves lapping against the shore and the promise of endless sunsets, Northridge Inn & Resort isn’t just a place to stay; it’s an invitation to relax and breathe, where wild beauty keeps you grounded. It’s a place that reminds you that thriving doesn’t always mean going far. Sometimes, it just means following the fox to Northridge.
