Warm hospitality, thoughtful service, and an easy sense of place defined my stay at the Frontenac Club. From the moment I arrived, it felt like the kind of stay where details matter; not in an over-the-top way, but in a quietly confident, well-considered one.

Housed in a handsome 19th-century limestone building in downtown Kingston, the Frontenac Club has lived a few past lives—first as a bank, later as a gentlemen’s club—before being reimagined as a 14-room boutique inn. Today, those layers of history remain part of its charm, balanced with modern comforts and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Each room has its own personality, blending vintage character with contemporary design. I stayed in the Backstage Suite, a nod to one of Canada’s most beloved bands, The Tragically Hip.
As a longtime fan, I couldn’t help but smile at the memorabilia and thoughtful details woven into the space. There’s something undeniably grounding about slowing down with a glass of wine, robe on, surrounded by pieces of Canadian music history.

The inn’s location is one of its biggest draws. Set in the heart of Kingston, it’s an easy base for wandering the city on foot—from museums and galleries to independent shops and waterfront strolls. You’re also well-positioned to explore nearby highlights like Fort Henry or venture a little farther to the Thousand Islands, making it a great option for a weekend that blends culture with fresh air.

I opted to dine in, ordering both dinner and breakfast (included with the stay, along with Wi-Fi and parking) from the on-site restaurant, The Bank Gastrobar. The restaurant is set within the building’s original bank vault—a detail that adds character without feeling gimmicky—and the menu highlights locally sourced ingredients alongside a well-curated wine list.

Service throughout my stay was genuinely warm. The staff struck that perfect balance between attentive and unassuming, and owner Sean even dropped off coffee at my door before breakfast—a small gesture that felt especially appreciated on a slow morning.

Whether you’re planning a cultural weekend, a shoulder-season escape, or simply looking for a thoughtfully restored place to stay while exploring Kingston, the Frontenac Club offers a memorable, distinctly Ontario experience that feels both polished and personal.
